Common platform

Common platform is an operating pattern where universal needs across the NHS are solved once, exceptionally well, and made available to everyone at zero or minimal cost. Rather than allowing hundreds of organisations to procure or build their own versions of fundamental capabilities such as patient notifications, identity verification, appointment reminders, and payment processing, this pattern invests in creating shared platforms that do one thing brilliantly and are designed for effortless self-service adoption.

These platforms don’t rely on mandates for uptake, they spread because they’re so good, so easy to use, and so cost effective that not using them would be negligent. Good platforms do one thing well and meet the needs of teams delivering public-facing services.

The concept of common platforms is not purely a technology one. It can be applied to other common needs, such as fulfillment or common clinical tests.
